Instructions for winding and setting a Key Wind Watch

Winding and setting a key wind and set watch is pictured below. Usually the same key is for both winding and setting. Care must be taken not to touch the hands or wheels inside the movemet.

Except for fusee watches, most key wind watches wind in a clockwise direction. They should be easy to wind so do not force wind with much pressure. When setting the hands, either direction may be used to move to hands by placing the key at the center of the arbor that holds the hands in place. Do not actually touch the hands. Some watches set from a square shaft in the center of the back of the movement.

Any questions should be directed to a watch maker or repair person that you trust.
